operated by Dr. Gene McHugh, since 1985. Dr.
McHugh is not restricted to using only one brand and is
not owned by any hearing aid manufacturer or buying
group. Is this better? Absolutely. Dr. McHugh posts his hearing aid fees/prices
so you will know what to expect when you come in. He's
the only one that does. |

BACKGROUND,
EDUCATION TRAINING & EXPERIENCE - He's been here for a long
time, educated in Colorado and plans to stay in Colorado
Springs for a long time.

Attended high school in Colorado Springs

Received his bachelor's degree (BA) with honors from the
University of Northern Colorado, in 1975.

Interned at Denver General Hospital and
The Children's Hospital

Completed
the
master's degree (M.A.) in clinical audiology in 1976.

Licensed to practice audiology in Iowa
after completing clinical fellowship year and passing
national examination
-
Worked for hearing aid manufacturer
(Siemens) from 1977 to 1980 as manufacturer
representative and audiologist.

Became certified clinically competent in audiology (designated
as CCC/A) by the American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association (1980).

Worked for earmold manufacturer (Westone)
from 1980 to 1982 as representative and in-house
audiologist.

Enrolled
in doctoral program at University of Northern Colorado, Department
of Special Education (1982-1985)

Taught undergraduate and graduate courses
in audiology and deaf education and served as clinical
supervisor at the University of Northern Colorado
Audiology Clinic between 1982 to 1984.

Interned at The Children's Hospital,
Denver General Hospital and Colorado Department of
Health.

Conferred the doctorate
degree in
education (EdD) with emphasis in audiology and university
instruction in 1985. His is published dissertation
investigated the effects of open- classroom acoustics on
children with auditory processing deficit.

In July of 1985, Dr. McHugh opened his
private practice.

Dr. McHugh belongs to numerous
professional organizations and has published articles and
written chapters for audiology textbooks in the area of hearing
instrument fittings, earmold materials and microscope enhanced
cerumen management.

Gene is married to Mary Purinsh, DDS a general practice
DENTIST
located in the Old Colorado City district of Colorado Springs at
2501 West Colorado.
Both Gene and Mary were in the 1971 graduating class
from Coronado High School in Colorado Springs.
They married in 1976.
Mary
received her BA in Chemistry from the University of Northern
Colorado in 1975 and DDS from the University of Iowa in 1979.
Mary has been in private practice since 1980. In her spare
time, she is an artist. One of her paintings can be seen
in Gene's waiting room.
