  ASSISTIVE LISTENING DEVICES

WHEN HEARING AIDS ALONE ARE NOT ENOUGH

Television listening devices

Hearing the television is frustrating for many hearing aid users because of the distance.  Radio-frequency (RF) technology is a wireless alternative of transmitting sound information.  The clarity of speech is much better.

Using cell phones

Most cell phone ARE compatible with hearing aids that incorporate a telecoil, but you must purchase an "induction loop" accessory from your cell phone company. The square piece on the chest is a microphone making this a "hands free" system.  Put the loop around your neck.  Set the Hearing aid(s) to the "T" position (available on all behind the ear, and some in the ear models).  Call a friend and talk!  It will be remarkably clear.

Amplified Telephone

Often the easier and most effective way of improving one's hearing using the telephone is simply buy an amplified telephone.  The general volume is much strong.  If you have hearing aids with telecoil, the strength of the telecoil is better.
